8th Grade Math

Welcome to 8th Grade math!

Math is often considered a difficult and frustrating subject for students and parents alike.  Methods for teaching mathematics have changed over the years, but our general approach to problem solving has not.  I LOVE math because it is our power tool as human beings that allows us to reason through everything from basic daily tasks to the most complicated of problems.  Math is NOT a key used to find an answer; rather, it is a method for solving problems and utilizing logical reasoning.  I encourage my students to develop their own personal way of solving problems.  Their growing ability to reason through struggles in life must be created in themselves – it should not be copied from some teacher or internet influencer.  This is not to say that learning by imitation is wrong; however, I KNOW that my students are capable of more and I challenge every one of them to become better, stronger, smarter people than they were yesterday.

Students: You can access the notes at any time via our Microsoft Teams.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to receive any work that you missed.  I am here to help you grow and be successful, but I cannot do it for you.  Check the page next to my door for available tutorial days.

Parents: Eighth grade is a difficult year for these students.  The best way for both of us to address problems and concerns is through direct communication.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  Email is preferred if you have questions or need to share documents with me.  For other issues, call my extension and I will get back with you within 24 hours.
